1. Information We Collect
RookDuel does not operate a general user-account system across its websites or products. The information processed depends on how you interact with a particular RookDuel service.
Information You Provide
You may voluntarily provide information when communicating with RookDuel or using a service that accepts submissions, including:
- Name
- Email address
- Message or inquiry details
- Technical or security information included in a report
- Files or other information voluntarily submitted for a particular purpose
RookDuel may receive such information through email and through Zoho Forms used for certain Avikal support and security-reporting workflows.
Website Analytics
The main rookduel.tech website uses Google Analytics for website measurement and analytics.
Depending on your interaction with the website and the configuration of Google Analytics, information may include technical and usage information such as browser or device information, pages viewed, referring information, approximate geographic information, and interactions with the website.
RookDuel does not intentionally configure Google Analytics to collect the contents of contact or support messages, passwords, encryption keys, or files submitted to RookDuel products.
Google Analytics is operated by Google and may process information in accordance with Google's own privacy practices.
2. How We Use Information
Information provided directly to RookDuel may be used to:
- Respond to inquiries and communications
- Provide product or technical support
- Receive and investigate security reports
- Communicate about a reported issue or request
- Maintain the security and reliability of RookDuel services
- Detect and prevent misuse, abuse, or security incidents
- Maintain necessary records relating to communications and security matters
Website analytics information is used to understand website usage, improve the website, and monitor general performance.
RookDuel does not sell personal information.
3. RookDuel Products and Data Handling
Different RookDuel products have different data boundaries. The following describes their current operation.
RookDuel Avikal
RookDuel Avikal is designed as a local-first desktop archival and security application.
Files, folders, code, and other digital content processed through Avikal remain on the user's system. Avikal does not upload user files or archival content to a RookDuel cloud service.
Avikal may connect to external services for limited technical functions. For example, update checks may use the GitHub API to determine whether an updated release is available.
Where Avikal uses drand for distributed-randomness or TimeCapsule-related functionality, it retrieves the required randomness information from the service. User files and archival contents are not uploaded to drand.
RookDuel Encode
RookDuel Encode allows users to enter or upload content for conversion into chess PGN and related operations.
Encode uses an online processing backend hosted through Google Cloud to perform its conversion functions. Content submitted for processing may therefore be transmitted to that backend for the requested operation.
RookDuel does not use the Encode backend as a persistent storage service and does not intentionally retain submitted content after processing.
Users should avoid submitting sensitive or confidential information to an online service unless they are comfortable transmitting that information for the requested processing.
RookDuel Setu
Setu is an open-source documentation and learning infrastructure project.
The Setu project itself does not provide a RookDuel-managed user-account or personal-data storage service.
Websites built using Setu may have their own data practices depending on how the individual site operator configures and operates them.
4. RookDuel Chess
teams.rookduel.tech functions as an informational hub for RookDuel Chess teams, tournaments, and related activities.
The site does not currently operate a user-account system, collect player registrations, or maintain a player database. It primarily provides information and links to external chess platforms.
When you use Chess.com, Lichess, WorldChess, or another external chess platform, that platform's own privacy policy and terms govern its processing of your information.
5. RookDuel Blog
blog.rookduel.tech is hosted through Hashnode.
The Hashnode platform may process information through its hosting, publishing, analytics, cookies, and other platform functionality in accordance with its own policies and terms.
RookDuel does not independently control all technical processing performed by the Hashnode platform.
6. Contact, Support, and Security Reports
RookDuel may retain email conversations relating to inquiries, support requests, security reports, and other communications.
Certain Avikal support and security-reporting workflows use Zoho Forms. Information submitted through those forms is processed through Zoho's services and may be retained according to the relevant configuration and provider practices.
RookDuel retains such information only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, provide follow-up, investigate issues, maintain appropriate records, protect its services, or meet applicable legal obligations.
7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The main rookduel.tech website uses Google Analytics, which may use cookies or similar technologies to measure website activity.
RookDuel does not currently use advertising networks or advertising cookies on the main rookduel.tech website.
You can manage cookies and similar technologies through your browser and any controls made available by the relevant service provider.
Other RookDuel properties may have different technical configurations or third-party platform functionality.
8. Third-Party Services
RookDuel uses selected third-party services to operate particular parts of its ecosystem. Depending on the service involved, these include:
- Google Analytics for website analytics
- Zoho Forms for selected Avikal support and security-reporting workflows
- Google Cloud for RookDuel Encode's processing backend
- GitHub for source-code hosting and Avikal release/update checks
- drand for distributed-randomness functionality used by Avikal
- Hashnode for hosting the RookDuel Blog
- External chess platforms for RookDuel Chess activities
These services may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
9. Data Sharing
RookDuel does not sell personal information.
Information may be processed by third-party service providers where reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, or support a RookDuel service.
Information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law or lawful requests
- Protect the security or integrity of RookDuel services
- Investigate abuse, fraud, or security incidents
- Protect the rights, safety, or property of RookDuel or others
10. International Processing
RookDuel serves users internationally, and third-party providers used by RookDuel may process information in countries other than the country in which you are located.
Such processing may be subject to the relevant provider's privacy practices and applicable law.

RookDuel applies reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the information it handles.
RookDuel's products have different data boundaries based on their design. Avikal is intended to keep user archival content on the user's own system, while online services such as Encode may transmit submitted content to a processing backend when required to perform the requested operation.
No internet-connected system can guarantee absolute security. Users should therefore avoid submitting information to an online service that they are not comfortable transmitting for the stated purpose.
12. Privacy Rights and Requests
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights relating to your personal information, including rights to request access, correction, updating, deletion, or other applicable forms of control over your information.
Where applicable, you may also have rights relating to consent and its withdrawal.

RookDuel may request reasonable information to verify a request before taking action where necessary to protect the requester or others.
13. Children and Teenagers
RookDuel's general public-facing websites are intended to remain accessible to teenagers and adults and are not generally restricted to users aged 18 or older.
Certain products, features, transactions, or activities may have additional age or consent requirements where required by applicable law.
Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent or other safeguards for the processing of a minor's personal information, those requirements will apply to the relevant service.
Nothing in this section is intended to create a broader age restriction than is required for the particular service or applicable law.

RookDuel does not maintain a general centralized database of user data across its products.
Information may nevertheless be retained where necessary for a particular purpose, including:
- Email and support conversations
- Security reports
- Form submissions
- Necessary operational or security records
- Information retained by third-party service providers as part of providing their services
Retention depends on the purpose and service involved. RookDuel seeks not to retain personal information for longer than reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose or as required by applicable law.
15. Product-Specific Privacy Practices
A RookDuel product or service may introduce functionality with data practices that differ materially from those described in this policy.
Where necessary, RookDuel may provide an additional or product-specific privacy notice. Such a notice will supplement this Privacy Policy and apply to the relevant product or service where stated.

RookDuel may link to websites, services, repositories, platforms, and other resources that are not controlled by RookDuel.
RookDuel is not responsible for the privacy practices, security, content, or policies of those third parties.
